Elementary Students and Paint Love Team Up to Create a Vibrant School Mural
A school playground is often filled with the sounds of laughter, the pitter-patter of running feet, and the occasional squeal of delight. But at Lilburn Elementary School, something new has been added to the mix—a bold and colorful mural, a true reflection of the students who play near it every day.
Thanks to a unique collaboration between the young artists of Lilburn Elementary School and the nonprofit organization Paint Love, the school’s outdoor space now features a stunning work of art inspired entirely by the students themselves.
The journey began with a simple but powerful question: "What is special about your school?" Armed with paper and imagination, students were invited to express their answers through sketches, symbols, and designs. Their ideas ranged from favorite school activities to beloved teachers, cherished friendships, and the sense of community they feel every day.
These personal and heartfelt design pages were then handed over to a talented muralist and designer, Sway Jones, who carefully wove the students' visions into one unified masterpiece. The final mural, now proudly displayed on an exterior wall overlooking the playground, bursts with color and meaning, ensuring that every child who sees it recognizes a piece of their own creativity within it.
Paint Love, known for bringing high-quality art experiences to youth through meaningful partnerships, played a key role in facilitating the project.
With its vibrant colors and heartfelt imagery, the mural now stands as a daily reminder of what makes Lilburn Elementary School so special—not just the building, but the people, the memories, and the creativity that make it a home away from home.
