The Lilburn Loop: August 18
Recap from the August 11 City Council Meeting
At the August 2025 meeting, the Lilburn City Council approved two major infrastructure contracts:
- Contract No. 63-2025 – Memorandum of Agreement with GDOT: Council approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for safety and aesthetic enhancements to the replacement of the State Route 8 bridge over Jackson Creek. The $200,000 project will be funded by the 2023 SPLOST.
- Contract No. 66-2025 – Street Repair & Resurfacing: Council awarded a $512,190.31 contract to Blount Construction Company Inc. for street repair and resurfacing on various city streets. The city leveraged Gwinnett County’s existing contract with the same company working in a nearby area, securing favorable pricing. Approximately $124,000 of the cost will be funded by SPLOST, with the remainder funded by Local Maintenance Infrastructure Grant funds from GDOT. Work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving 2025.
Public Works Director Mike Helton highlighted that the partnership approach reduced costs and expedited the project timeline.
