[ARCHIVED] The Lilburn Loop: February 2

Here's this week's highlights:

The Lilburn Loop: January 26

RECAP From WINTER WEATHERBrine truck on the road

The City of Lilburn was prepared ahead of last weekend’s freezing temperatures. Public Works treated all city streets with brine last Friday night and Saturday morning prior to temperatures dropping below freezing. Crews were also ready to distribute deicer as needed.

Fortunately, Lilburn had no ice accumulation on the roadways. We experienced only one downed tree, and no downed power lines were reported.

We would like to thank our Public Works Department, Lilburn Police Department, and the Emergency Management Team, who were all at the ready throughout the weather event to ensure the safety of our community. Thank you to our residents for staying weather aware and prepared!

RECAP from the 1/27 CompREHENSIVE PLAN WORKSHOP

Comprehensive Plan Update: What You Need To Know

Thank you to everyone who participated in the City of Lilburn’s recent Comprehensive Plan public workshop. Your input plays an important role in helping guide the city’s future.

The Comprehensive Plan is a citywide, long-range planning document that provides guidance for land use, transportation, housing, economic development, and growth for the next 5 to 50 years.

During the workshop, residents were invited to share thoughts on topics such as walkability, connectivity, access to services, and how Lilburn can continue to grow thoughtfully while preserving its character.

Thank you for helping shape Lilburn’s future — your voice truly matters!

Old Town Planning Charrette

What's Next: Downtown Master Plan Charrette Kick -Off

The City of Lilburn invites residents to continue the conversation at the Downtown Master Plan Charrette Kick-Off Meeting on Monday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lilburn First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 285 Main Street.

This meeting will officially launch the Downtown Master Plan process — a focused planning effort that explores design concepts, mobility and traffic circulation, public spaces, and redevelopment opportunities within downtown and Old Town Lilburn.

Please note: This meeting will take the place of the Mayor’s Town Hall for the month of February.

Community input is essential as we work together to shape the future of Old Town Lilburn, and we encourage all residents to attend.

How these two planning efforts work together?

While both planning efforts help guide Lilburn’s future, they serve different purposes:

Comprehensive Plan

  • Covers the entire city
  • Provides long-range guidance for land use, transportation, housing, and growth
  • Helps inform future zoning and development decisions

Downtown Master Plan

  • Focuses specifically on Old Town
  • Explores design concepts, mobility, public spaces, and redevelopment opportunities
  • Creates a shared vision for one specific area of the city

Together, these plans work hand in hand — the Comprehensive Plan establishes the citywide framework, while the Downtown Master Plan provides more detailed guidance for downtown.

First and Main Assemblage Update

Work is underway at the First Avenue and Main Street assemblage, a public-private partnership led by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to support future investment in Old Town Lilburn. Crews are preparing the 2.61-acre site for a mixed-use development, which is planned to include commercial space along Main Street and residential units along Velva Way.

Lewis Contracting Services began site work in early November, and crews are installating underground storm utilities. Site development is expected to continue through mid-summer 2026. As this project moves forward, all plans and renderings remain conceptual and subject to change. Updates will continue to be shared as progress is made. This project represents another step toward reinvestment in Old Town, and the City will continue to keep the community informed as work progresses.

Railroad Avenue Project Update: Porchline & the Parking Deck

Another busy week is ahead in Old Town Lilburn as work continues at both the Porchline development and the shared parking deck.

At the parking deck, crews will be focusing on brick and canopy work, completing remaining metal and steel elements, and finalizing electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

Over at Porchline, exterior work continues with brick, canopies, siding, and painting. Inside, drywall installation is underway in Building A1, cabinet installation with countertops continues in Building B1, and fencing is scheduled to begin on the north side near the townhomes.
