The Lilburn Police Department invites the community to attend their tenth annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. The event will take place at Plaza Las Americas, located at 733 Pleasant Hill Road in Lilburn.
Lilburn's National Night Out begins at 6 p.m. and will conclude with a police K9 demonstration from 8-8:30 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet staff from local police, fire, and other public safety agencies. Various vehicles will be on display and guests can learn about safety and crime prevention. In addition to the Lilburn Police Department, several agencies from surrounding areas are scheduled to be in attendance at the event.
"We're grateful to all of the participating agencies that help make this event such a success," Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley said. "The public gets to meet the officers protecting their community, ask questions, and learn about crime prevention. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the event on August 6."
Over 38.5 million people in more than 16,500 communities around the U.S. and Canada are expected to participate in National Night Out. This is the 36th year for the event, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts, (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out 2019 corporate sponsors are A&W, AT&T, Academy Sports & Outdoors, Associa, Dietz & Watson, Renewal by Anderson, and Ring.
Lilburn's 2018 event was ranked No. 25 among small cities nationwide that held the event. It was the fifth year in a row that the Lilburn event was recognized by the NATW.
