November Citizen of the Month: Calum Lewis

CalumLewis (2)

Calum Lewis’ family moved from Cape Town, South Africa, twelve years ago for the same reasons many people do.  They love the community and appreciate the stellar public schools and small-town aura.

“I love living in Lilburn because of the diversity in the community, from the places you can shop and eat, to the people you meet at Lilburn City Park,” Lewis said. “Everyone is so nice and inclusive. You get the small town feel right outside metro Atlanta.”

The 2017 Parkview High grad makes a concerted effort to be involved in city affairs. He currently serves as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and, in 2017, made an unsuccessful campaign bid for a Lilburn City Council seat.

“Running for City Council taught me a lot,” he said. “One major thing is that, despite being one person, I can have an impact on my community and can help it grow and change into a better version of itself. I was able to foster many relationships with people within the city. I am grateful I took the plunge.”

He works as a Delivery Lead at Chick-fil-A Lilburn, across from City Hall, and studies computer science. For down time, he plays video games, tinkers with computers, builds robots and spends time with loved ones.

Lewis, 23, is the City’s November Citizen of the Month.

“Community service is very important,” he said. “IF you want to enact change around you, you have to be involved.  Be the change you want to see in the world, as they say. I believe everyone should find some way to be involved in community service, even if it’s in a small way.”
