Recap from the 11/17 TOWN HALL

Mayor Crist’s Town Hall Meeting on November 17, 2025, was well-attended. Mayor Crist launched a new fireside chat format for the monthly meetings to encourage more active dialogue among participants.

The Mayor and City Manager sat in front of an audience arranged in a semi-circle, and participants were encouraged to submit their questions anonymously on notecards. The City Manager then read the questions aloud with the Mayor providing responses.

During the 75-minute session, 20 questions were submitted and answered. Key topics of discussion included the city’s authority to regulate rental properties and set fines for city code violations, speeding, the status of new developments in Old Town, and plans to expand city park.

Holidays at the Historic Wynne-Russell House

Recent structural work was required at the nearly 200-year-old Wynne-Russell House, and a specialized crew has been on-site to ensure the historic structure remains safe and stable. Because of this necessary work, some of the holiday decorating that had been planned for November 22nd will need to be rescheduled for a later date.

First and Main Assemblage Update

Site development is now underway at the First Avenue and Main Street assemblage. This project is another public-private partnership assembled by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to bring new investment and activity to Old Town.

Crews are preparing the 2.61-acre site for the future mixed-use development approved by Mayor and Council, featuring commercial space along Main Street and residential units along Velva Way.

Lewis Contracting Services began work in early November, and site development will continue through mid-summer 2026. Please note that all plans and renderings are conceptual and subject to change.

We will continue to share updates as progress is made.
