Diana Preston honored by Lilburn City Council

Former Mayor Preston honored

The City of Lilburn honored one of its finest public servants on Monday. Diana Preston has devoted herself to the betterment of the Lilburn community, serving as the city's first female mayor from 2008-2011, a city council member for 22 years, and currently as executive director of the Lilburn Community Partnership nonprofit.

Council presented Preston with a proclamation and a glass "Lilburn Lily" with the following inscription: "Thank you for your dedication to creating a safe, vibrant, and prosperous community." The glass sculpture was created by world-renowned artist Hung Nguyen, whose studio, MC Glass Art, is located on Rockbridge Road in Lilburn. Office/Distribution Facility zoning approved

Council rezoned 36 acres at 550 Indian Trail Lilburn Road from Commercial Business to Industrial Activity to allow for construction of a 350,000-square-foot office/distribution facility by Taylor & Mathis Properties. Zoning conditions address architectural design, adequate buffer along the property line, installation of street trees and sidewalks, and minimizing traffic impact on Indian Trail. The former Jackson Creek Water Reclamation Facility has been vacant for many years and is owned by the Lilburn Downtown Development Authority. Vote: 4-0.

Hillcrest sidewalk construction to begin

Construction will begin within the next few weeks on sidewalks along Hillcrest Road, between Indian Trail and Burns roads. Out of nine bids received, Council approved the low bidder, Excellere Construction LLC, in the amount of $155,800. This project is 100-percent funded by the Community Development Block Grant and will provide a safety and mobility enhancements along Hillcrest Road. In addition to sidewalks, the project will include milling on Hillcrest Road to bring the street in line with new curbing. Vote: 4-0.
