Divisions
The Lilburn Police Department has three full-time investigators and a full-time property and evidence custodian under the direct supervision of a Lieutenant. This section is responsible for investigating crimes committed within the city limits of Lilburn, but also works with other local, state, and federal agencies, as needed.
These investigators generally work from 8:00 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, but are on call all other days of the week and around the clock to respond to crimes that require their level of expertise. Gwinnett Metro Task Force
Formed in August 2012 by Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Snellville, and Suwanee, the Gwinnett Metro Task Force (GMTF) combats the sale, distribution, manufacture, and/or use of illegal drugs and other organized criminal activity. The GMTF is also responsible for actively pursuing vice related investigations, including, but not limited to:
- Consumer Fraud
- Gambling
- Loan Shark Operations
- Pornography
- Prostitution
- White-collar Crime
How to Report
The Gwinnett Metro Task Force will only be successful with the help of the citizens. When reporting criminal activity using the Drug Tip Line or email, be as specific as you can in the reasons to where, when, how, who, and why. If you would like for an investigator to contact you, please provide the contact information. You may remain anonymous if you wish.

K9 Unit
In June 2017, the Lilburn Police Department established their K-9 program and welcomed a new police dog named Ajax, a Belgian Malinois. Since the unit has been active, SPO Aj Ajanovic and Ajax have been responsible for numerous apprehensions from burglaries in progress, to tracking, to narcotics, to located articles. Due to the program's success, another K-9 was added to the department in 2024.
Traffic Unit
The Traffic Unit focuses on promoting traffic safety and solving traffic-related problems throughout the city by intervention, enforcement, and education. Traffic Unit officers are also members of the Accident Investigation Unit, which is responsible for the investigation of serious or fatal accidents. These officers received extensive training through the Institute of Police Technology and Management and are certified by the State of Georgia to handle these types of investigations. There are two officers assigned full-time to this unit.

Training Unit
The Training Unit is dedicated to developing the skills of sworn and civilian employees. The Training Unit provides comprehensive training to ensure our citizens are provided quality public safety services. This is accomplished by employing innovative training technology, practical instruction, as well as instruction in a classroom setting. All training instructors are certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) to teach. This unit consists of one full-time instructor and uses other POST certified instructors as adjunct training staff.

Staff
The Uniform Patrol Division is comprised of 17 officers who protect and serve the 8 square miles inside the city limits. The City of Lilburn is proud to have a police coverage rate of 2.6 officers per 1,000 residents.
Lilburn police officers are professional, highly trained Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certified peace officers who have exceptional knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Lilburn officers have training in the use of firearms, the operation of police vehicles, and other specialized equipment including breathalyzers, radar units, police batons, Tasers, OC spray, restraining devices, and emergency response driving.
Responsibilities
Lilburn police officers are tasked with multiple responsibilities that include the following:
- Answering emergency and non-emergency calls for service within the Lilburn city limits
- Enforcing applicable federal, state, and city laws and ordinances
- Patrolling city streets, neighborhoods, and parks for the purpose of increasing police visibility to discourage criminal activity, and to discover crimes in progress
- Performing area checks to observe doors and windows of banks and business establishments to ensure their security and to check for signs of damage and/or illegal entry
- Completing reports of arrests, interviews, and evidence of property received
- Obtaining warrants and arresting criminal suspects
- Enforcing traffic laws, issuing citations, and investigating traffic accidents
- Assisting Lilburn citizens
- Testifying in court
- Acting as security for Lilburn Municipal Court
- Providing security and traffic control for city events
- Performing community service activities such as conducting safety presentations to neighborhood watch groups and Police Department tours

Administration
The Police Chief is responsible for planning, directing and leading the Operations Division and the Support Division of the police department. The Sr. Administrative Assistant and the appointed Chaplains report to the Chief of Police.
Operations Division
The Operations Commander, with the rank of Captain, leads the Patrol Operations Unit and the Special Operations Unit. Both units protect and serve the 8-square miles inside the city limits of Lilburn.
The Patrol Operations Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant, four Sergeants, 14 full-time officers, two part-time officers, and a Canine Unit. The Patrol Operations Lieutenant also oversees the Public Safety Cadet Program.
The Special Operations Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant, two Community Outreach Officers, two Traffic Units, three full-time Code Enforcement Officers, and one part-time Court Security Officer. In addition to supervising the specialized operations unit, the Lieutenant also serves as the multi-jurisdictional Special Response Team Commander and directs special projects.

- Completing reports of arrests, interviews, and evidence of property received
- Obtaining warrants and arresting criminal suspects
- Enforcing traffic laws, issuing citations, and investigating traffic accidents
- Work with the community to ensure compliance with city code enforcement
- Assists officers by utilizing a skilled and trained police dog
- Assisting Lilburn citizens
- Testifying in court
- Acting as security for Lilburn Municipal Court
- Providing security and traffic control for city events
- Performing community service activities such as conducting safety presentations to neighborhood watch groups and Police Department tours
- Conduct citizen police academies and women’s self-defense classes.
Support Division
The Support Division Commander, with the rank of Captain, leads the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Support Services Unit. All units of the Support Division provide investigative and administrative support to all members of the police department.
The Criminal Investigation Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant, a Sergeant, and five investigators. Lilburn Investigators are tasked with multiple responsibilities that include the following:
- Investigates crimes in the city limits of Lilburn, but also works with other local, state, and federal agencies, as needed
- Enforcing applicable federal, state, and city laws and ordinances
- Obtaining warrants and arresting criminal suspects
- Testifying in court
- Providing criminal intelligence
- Conducts department training for all members of the department, including a comprehensive field training program for all new hires
- Recruits new hires and conducts thorough background checks
- Manages and maintains all property and evidence received by the police department
- Serves on the Gwinnett Metro Task Force
Support Services Unit
The Support Services Unit is comprised of a Support Services Manager and two Police Support Specialists. Members of the Support Services Unit are tasked with multiple responsibilities that include the following:
- Processing and filing citations and incident, accident, and arrest reports
- Providing copies of reports and responding to open records requests
- Providing background check and fingerprint services to the public
- Entering, maintaining, and validating warrants and stolen vehicles and property
- Processes false alarm billing
- Maintains department policy and procedure
- Ensures compliance with state certification standards
